Proud Preston

Friday 20th February 2015

The latest incumbent of the chair of Furness Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 375 is young Les Preston.

That is not an attempt to curry favour with the new Worshipful Commander nor does this sobriquet refer to his boyish good looks – his, what I like to poetically refer to as moon kissed blonde, hair puts pay to that idea!
Stuart Brackstone, Michael Clarke, Les Preston and Keiron Mullen.
It is because his proposer into the lodge is Les Preston – distinguished by the epithet of “old”. They are good friends but are not related. Les Snr. is the lodge organist

W Bro Michael Clarke was the principal guest at the installation meeting which was held at Ulverston Masonic Hall.

Also in attendance was special representative Stuart Brackstone along with Provincial Deputy DC Ken Boon and Assistant Deputy DC Brian Gregson who were able to add their expertise to the occasion.

The ceremony was conducted in fine style by installing Worshipful Commander Keiron Mullen. Lodge DC Reg Carden and his deputy Dave Smith had obviously drilled him long and hard so that Keiron’s work was accurate and delivered with style. It was a pleasure to witness.
To mark the occasion Michael was presented with a cheque for £500. It was requested that £125 be ring-fenced for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation at the Royal Preston Hospital which has provided medical care and support for several lodge members.
The festive board.
Following the ceremonial part of the evening 50 members and guests retired to the dining room to enjoy an excellent four course meal.
